On November 7, Professor Mary, Associate Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Arts & Design (DJCAD), Dundee University in the UK, on the occasion of the opening of the professional course of the Sino-UK Articulation Programme.

The leaders of the participating school include Jiao Xingtao (Vice-Principal of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute) , Duan Shengfen (Dean of the College of Design), Su Yonggang (Director of the Graduate Office), Zeng Yue (Director of International Office), and Wang Jin (Director of the Personnel Office). As representatives of art universities in China and Britain, Jiao Xingtao and Mary spoke at the meeting separately.

Jiao Xingtao took the lead in speaking. He said that in today’s international environment, it is not difficult to find many ‘differences’ if you jump out of the original experience life and study. He encouraged that such “differences” should be respected, and he should learn to ‘respect differences’ and pay attention to understanding differences in artistic creation, design and art education. He believes that ‘only differences can stimulate creativity’, in addition, we should pay attention to vertical and horizontal coordinates, attach  importance to both art history education and contemporary art works. and characters.

Secondly,  aware of the importance and necessity of international learning, he said that emphasis should be  placed on cultivating expression skills, expression methods, language concepts, and more importantly, encouraging English learning.

Finally, he stressed that the opening of experimental classes, as a bridge to the world, will further promote international exchanges.

Professor Mary then made a speech. She happily expressed her expectation for a deeper cooperation with Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. She believes that as representative art colleges in China and Britain, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute has many similarities with DJCAD at Dundee University in the UK, such as curriculum  awarding,  superior practice centers and resources, etc. However, at the level of Chinese and British cultural background,  there are certain differences between the two colleges and universities.

Secondly, she introduced that DJCAD of University of Dundee in the UK has always enjoyed the reputation of Scotland’s top art and design research and is one of the top art colleges in the UK. Dundee, where it works, is also named ‘Design Capital’ by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Not only are the faculty and staff of the college an artist and designer engaged in world-class research, it also provides a superior studio environment.

After the two school leaders spoke, they began the Q&A session of ‘Talking to Mary’. By introducing their works and raising professional questions of personal concern, students and Mary K. Professor Mary has a one-on-one interaction.
