The Grand Opening of the 4th KEASS International Creative Education Forum

On the afternoon of July 30th, the 4th KEASS International Creative Education Forum was held in Jinjiang Hall, 5th floor, International Convention Center, Intercontinental Hotel Paradise, Chengdu. The forum was organized by KEASS and the School of Design of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, co-organized by the Welsh Government and supported by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General.

On the afternoon of July 30th, the 4th KEASS International Creative Education Forum was held in Jinjiang Hall, 5th floor, International Convention Center, Intercontinental Hotel Paradise, Chengdu. The forum was organized by KEASS and the School of Design of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, co-organized by the Welsh Government and supported by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General.

The theme of this forum is ‘creative education and global challenges’, which is composed of three main links: opening ceremony, keynote speech and thematic discussion.

1.Opening ceremony

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of Culture and Education Section Southwest Region and Director of Education Cooperation and Development of British Consulate-General Mr. Chen Bing, Chief Representative of Glasgow School of Art In China  Ms. Wang Xiaoai , and Executive Director of KEASS Mr. Li Xiang,  made speeches successively. All the guests took the stage to jointly open the forum.

2.Keynote speech

Mr. Chen Bing, Deputy Director of the Culture and Education Section of the British Consulate-General, Southwest Region, Director of Education Cooperation and Development, delivered the opening speech.

In the main forum, 5 deans of top art colleges and universities at home and abroad shared with the guests and audience five fascinating keynote speeches which were interesting, triggered the thinking of the industry and extremely interactive. They are respectively: Professor Masai, vice president of the Academy of Arts, Tsinghua University, who gave a keynote speech entitled ‘Creative design Education in Chinese Universities’, and Professor Mary Modeen, deputy dean of Duncan Jordan Stone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee, who gave a keynote speech on ‘Reconstructing Systems: Art and Design Education in the 21st Century’, and Dean of Plymouth College of Art and Design Prof. Andrew Brewerton gave a keynote speech entitled ‘Sustainability of Creative Education and Practice’. Professor Dorsey gave a keynote speech entitled ‘Italian Design rooted in entrepreneurship’ and Dean of the Royal College of Art Professor Barfield,  delivered a keynote speech on ‘Creative Education and the Crisis of Globalization’.

3.Thematic discussion

The symposium was presided over by Chief Executive of KEASS Mr. Li Xiang, and Academic Dean of the Royal College of Art Professor Naren Barfield, Plymouth College of Art and Design Professor Andrew Burwharton , Deputy dean of the European Academy of design Professor Andrea Dorsey,  School of Design of  Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Professor Chen Xiaolin, Chief Executive of Urban’s Dream Mr. Xiong Samang, participated in the discussion.

This forum built an all-round industrial and academic exchange platform for International Creative Education and creative industry, aiming to shorten the gap between creative education in China and Europe, optimize and stabilize the sustainable development of Chinese cultural and creative industry, and complete a real academic dialogue on Creative Education in China and Europe.
